STEM DAY ACTIVITY

Our first STEM Day was a success. Students were asked to build a structure that would withstand both low and high winds. We had an amazing parent guest speaker who spoke to us about how he builds bridges and what makes them strong enough to withstand high winds. We read a book about skyscrapers to see what other structures we could build. We also read a fiction story about the wind blowing peoples things away! Then we imagined, got in groups and came up with a plan, built our structures, and tested them. We measured our structures and compared them to others. Some groups even got a chance to improve and test again!

Thermometers

This week in the Science Lab was all about thermometers. The students were able to create one that measures heat. We can watch the water travel up as it gets warmer. We practiced reading a thermometer and talked about what kind of weather different temperatures bring. We also read real thermometers and recorded the temperatures of different spots on the playground. Boy was it a not day! It was 80 degrees in the shade this morning! As always, a big thank you to our volunteers!
