Synergy and Expanded Form

We finally got to meet our 5th grade buddies today! The students were so excited. Before they came we wrote down 3 questions we had for them (this helps us with our asking and answering questions standard). after gettig to know them, we headed outside for a pasta relay race. This activity reinforces the importance of synergy.

In math we are working on a new strategy for addition. it involves using expanded form. Since the students have previously learned expanded for, they are picking up on this strategy quickly.

Crash, Bang, Boom! What's that sound? Onometopeia! We are working on hooking our readers when we write stories. Also expanding our sentences to make them more detailed. We are well on our way of meeting our goal to become better writers.

Doubles and Ice Cream!

This week we worked really hard on memorizing out doubles facts. We played games, practiced with friends, and learned a song. Knowing doubles will help with addition and subtraction fluency.

On Tuesday, we had ice cream for breakfast! The students had a great time in the Science Lab watching their liquids change into a delicious solid.

Thursday is the PTA Pasta Dinner. Hope to see you there!

Perfect 10

This week we have been working really hard during math. We are practicing a new strategy called Making Ten. It is really important for students to keep working on their addition facts to increase fluency.

We have moved on from matter to Georgia's five regions. This is a great time to take some family field trips to see our great state! We will also study our rivers and the impact our geography had on the Creek and Cherokee.

If you haven't already, please consider joining PTA. There will be a pasta dinner on the 26th. Hope to see you there!

SLT and Science Lab

Congratulations to Kate! She is our new SLT representative. We had some really great speeches. All of our candidates were impressive.

We had so much fun in the Science Lab this week. We continued to study matter. The students made obleck and goop. In class we had a Sprite  tasting. We used a Double Bubble Map to describe how it looks, tastes, and feels.
