Field Trip

Today we had a wonderful in house field trip. The North Georgia Zoo brought in so many interesting animals for us to learn about and pet. We saw an armadillo, glass snake (lizard), bull snake, chinchilla, bearded dragon, alligator, and bush baby! The students had a blast. We will be writing a short opinion piece about our favorite animal. Ask your child which animal they liked best and why.

Create a Zoo STEM

This week the students participated in a STEM activity that had them create a habitat for a zoo animal of their choice. This 9 weeks the students need to be able to identify the basic needs of animals. This STEM activity included that standard as well as time and of course reading and writing. First the students brainstormed a list of animals they would find in a zoo. We read a book called Zoo  that showed us what it would be like to work at a zoo and what different habitats may look like. The students choose the animal they wanted to research and build a habitat for and picked a partner with the same interest. Next they researched their animals needs. After that, they designed a plan and created their habitat. We had so much fun!
