Today we had some super awesome visitors! Our class was able to see 3 different careers and learn about what they do. We saw a chef, firefighters, and EMT. The students had lots of great questions for our guests.

Shapes
This week we started to learn about shapes. First graders are expected to be able to tell about shapes using important vocabulary words such as sides and vertices. They are also expected to build new shapes using 2-D and 3-D shapes.
We read The Shape of Things and transformed shapes. We read Mouse Shapes and used shapes to create our own mice. We also synergized to use yarn to form shapes out of yarn. We also used ipads to take pictures of the shapes we found around school.
Thank you for all of your generous food and snack donations. I know Children's Heathcare and the families they serve will appreciate it.

Dr. Seuss
This week we celebrated Read Across America Week in honor of Dr. Seuss. We had special guest readers from Kennesaw State University. They read to us and told us about how reading impacts their lives and the sports they play.
In class we read Oh, the Thinks you can Think! and set some goals to accomplish by the end of first grade.
First graders are expected to compare the adventures and experiences of characters in a story. We compared the fish and the cat using The Cat in the Hat.
There is a fun Dr. Seuss website with games. follow the link below if you would like to check it out.
