February has come and gone! It was a quick and busy month. In class we have studied fractions, the sun and moon, opinion writing, possessive nouns, and solving word problems. Wow!
In the Science Lab the students created a delicious diagram of the moon phases out of Oreos!
In class we used cookies to show what we learned about fractions.
Seems like cookies were popular this month. For opinion writing we used Oreos to remember the elements that need to be included in our writing pieces. The students are asked to double stuff their writing so it is full of details.
Possessive nouns can be tricky. Especially since we just studied contractions. Have your child be on the look out for possessive nouns when they read and write. Ask them to explain "whose".
Coming up in math... more word problems! This time it is with parts unknown. The students will use the strategies we have previously worked on to solve word problems with missing addends.
Thanks again for all of the flowers, cards, treats, and supplies. You are so thoughtful and generous. I appreciate you too!

100th Day!
Can you believe it? 100 days of school have come and gone. Time sure flies when you are having fun. To celebrate the hundredth day of school we made a special snack, imagined what it would be like to be 100 years old, and worked together to think of 100 ways to make 100, list 100 places we want to go, tell 100 things we have learned so far, and 100 ways to show we are leaders.

MLK and Contractions
Our studies of Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and work have really made an impact on the students. Their projects were wonderful. I can tell they really did their best. In class we came up with words to descibe Dr. King. The students came up with 30 adjectives! They created portraits of Dr. King and themselves and told about his and their dreams.
We are working on identifying and writing contractions as well as using them correctly in sentences. We played games, sang songs, and practiced this week. We will continue next week as well.
Next Friday, January 24 is the 100th. day of school. Please have your child count out 100 pieces of any item from the note sent home in their agenda. We will add them all up and enjoy a delicious snack.
Our new addition strategy is called Partial Sums. The students love this strategy. They are catching on quickly.
