Today we had Chess Club come and visit us. They taught us the pieces, how to set up the board, and play. The kids enjoyed it!
This week we planted in our garden plot. A big thank you to Mrs. Kerns who helped us out. Hopefully we will have giant sunflowers when we come back in late July! Thanks Mrs. Duke.
In the Science Lab the students created their own animals. They were adorable!
We will continue with our ABC countdown. We will have ice cream, the boys will be kings, we will share jokes(be sure to write one down), eat lollipops, and create a memory book.
Friday is Field Day. Be sure to apply sunscreen to your child and put a pair of spare clothes in your child's backpack in case they get super wet.

Book Buddies, Carrer Dress Up and ABC Countdown
It's hard to believe but we are nearing the end of this school year. This is a busy and fun time. We will be working on goods and services, informational and narrative writing and solving word problems. Our ABC Countdown has officially begun! This is a fun way to celebrate the end of the year. Please look in your child's GATOR book for reminders of what will happen each day. We have a lot of important events coming up. Look for reminders about those too.
We got to take a break and read with our book buddies this week to celebrate the end of their testing.

Shapes
We have been reviewing and studying 2-D shapes. In first grade we build and draw both 2 and 3-D shapes. We discuss defining and non defining attributes. We also partition circles and rectangles into halves and fourths.
In the Science Lab the students got to plant sweet potatoes for the George Washington Carver garden. They also planted carrots for the Tops and Bottoms garden. I am sure you also saw the super cool binoculars we went bird watching with.
